Narrative
Knowing his years and his illness, fiery but ailing film director Leonard Fife (Richard Gere) wants to tell his biography unfiltered before it’s too late. As a director of acclaimed documentaries, he has much to be proud of, but his avoidance of draft registration for the Vietnam War and his past relationships hide some hard truths. Finally determined to expose the truth and the lies about his life and career, Leonard sits down for an extensive film interview with his former student Malcolm (Michael Imperioli) and continues with his honest stories about his younger self (Jacob Elordi) in the 1960s and beyond… At Leonard’s urging, his wife and irreplaceable partner Emma (Uma Thurman) hears it all. Leonard’s successes are undone by his failures — contrary to the facts — and when the man is completely free of the myth, Leonard must come to terms with what’s left.
